Biography and Research Information

OverviewAI-generated summary

Yong-Moon Park is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His research focuses on the epidemiology of chronic diseases, particularly diabetes and cardiovascular outcomes, and factors influencing health and mortality in diverse populations. He has investigated the predictive value of metabolic syndrome and the product of triglycerides and glucose for type 2 diabetes, as well as the associations of variability in blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and body mass index with mortality and cardiovascular outcomes. Park has also explored the relationship between diet quality scores and the risk of frailty and mortality, and the association of exposure to artificial light at night with obesity risk in women.

His work also includes examining the determinants of blood pressure in older Koreans, specifically the role of sarcopenia. Park is a highly cited researcher with an h-index of 52 and over 445 publications, accumulating more than 10,000 citations. He is a Principal Investigator on federally funded research, including a $155,260 grant from the NIH/National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to understand disparities in cardiovascular toxicity among breast cancer survivors in Arkansas. He leads a research group and collaborates with colleagues at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, including Mario Schootman and Jong Ha Baek.

Understanding disparities in cardiovascular toxicity among breast cancer survivors in Arkansas

National Heart Lung and Blood Institute $155,260 K01

Research Interests

My research focuses on uncovering causes and preventive strategies for chronic diseases, including breast and other cancers, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. I study how lifestyle factors (diet and exercise), genetics/epigenetics, social determinants of health, and environmental exposures influence disease risk and prognosis, and how these factors interact with each other. I also aims to reduce cardiovascular health disparities in cancer survivors.; Cancer Epidemiology; Nutritional Epidemiology; Cardiometabolic Disease (Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and Metabolic Syndrome); Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology; Epidemiology of Cardio-Oncology; Social Determinants of Health; Clinical Epidemiology; Environmental Epidemiology; Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology; Chronic Disease Prevention
