Biography and Research Information
OverviewAI-generated summary
Yong-Moon Park's research focuses on epidemiological studies investigating the relationships between lifestyle factors, chronic diseases, and health outcomes. He has published work examining diet quality scores and their association with frailty and mortality across various age groups. His research also explores the persistence of risk for type 2 diabetes following gestational diabetes and the impact of type 2 diabetes and metformin use on breast cancer risk.
Further investigations by Park include the connection between healthy eating patterns and epigenetic measures of biological age, as well as the influence of dietary inflammatory potential and oxidative balance on breast cancer risk. He has also studied the association of general and central obesity, and changes in these measures, with the risk of knee osteoarthritis. His work includes comparisons of operational definitions for type 2 diabetes mellitus based on data from Korean health surveys and analyses of the relationship between knee osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease risk, including the combined effects of inactivity.
Park is a principal investigator on a grant from the NIH/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, totaling $155,591, to understand disparities in cardiovascular toxicity among breast cancer survivors in Arkansas. He is a highly cited researcher with 464 publications and over 11,500 citations. He leads a research group and collaborates with researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Understanding disparities in cardiovascular toxicity among breast cancer survivors in Arkansas
Research Interests
My research focuses on uncovering causes and preventive strategies for chronic diseases, including breast and other cancers, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. I study how lifestyle factors (diet and exercise), genetics/epigenetics, social determinants of health, and environmental exposures influence disease risk and prognosis, and how these factors interact with each other. I also aims to reduce cardiovascular health disparities in cancer survivors.; Cancer Epidemiology; Nutritional Epidemiology; Cardiometabolic Disease (Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and Metabolic Syndrome); Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology; Epidemiology of Cardio-Oncology; Social Determinants of Health; Clinical Epidemiology; Environmental Epidemiology; Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology; Chronic Disease Prevention
